BROADVIEW HEIGHTS lies 15 miles south of Cleveland, encompassing 13 square miles. Its name reflects its hilly topography, boasting some of the highest elevations in Cuyahoga County, reaching up to 1,275 feet above sea level.

Originally inhabited by the Chippewa Native Americans, Broadview Heights saw its first settler in 1811, Seth Paine, a surveyor commissioned by Colonel John Breck of Massachusetts. The area, including Brecksville, Broadview Heights, and North Royalton, was part of Royalton and Brecksville townships from 1811. In 1926, the village of Broadview Heights was established, with a population of 300. It grew rapidly, doubling to 4,000 within two years, and becoming a city by popular vote in 1960. Population surged to 19,936 by the 2020 census.
Broadview Heights students are served by two school districts, the highly sought after Brecksville-Broadview Heights school district, and high ranking North Royalton schools. The former operates three elementary schools, an intermediate school, a junior high school, and a high school. Additionally, the city hosts Assumption Academy, a Catholic elementary school, and Lawrence School catering to children with learning differences.
The city is predominantly residentia. Commercial activities are mainly concentrated in a 75-acre industrial park near the intersection of Route 82 and I-77, and a smaller area at the intersection of I-80 and Route 176.
